Headlight Booster

Want to have more juice out of your stock headlight bulbs? Headlights that are often connected to stator are not too bright that the intensity varies on a designated RPM as such like in suzuki shogun commuter bike wherein at 5000 rpm, the full brightness of the headlight can be attained. The photo below are the before and after in sequence at the same rpm reading of 5000 rpm.NTjH5m on Make A Gif, Animated Gifs

The brighter of the two already have the enhancer. How in the world i did it? considering your headlight attached to your voltage regulator to where it clips the voltage to a desirable level not to break the filament of the bulb by excessive voltage the stator is generating. The higher the Rpm of the engine, the higher the voltage it will generate, and without the voltage regulator, the BULB will instantly get busted.

HOW? firstly by understanding my recent post of voltage-regulator-summary , the yellow line actually is the path of the headlight to where it's directly connected to the stator lighting coil winding as shown

The regulator is only connected in parallel to that winding via earth chassis ground. If we removed that pin of the regulator in parallel to the winding, then there will be no more control over the lighting coil and as you increase the rpm of an engine the stator is generating a  high voltage, around 30-40 volts, a circuit inside the regulator will clamp this voltage down to 13 volts maximum for your headlights.

Its time to do the trick. The power of the 5 watts resistor as shown. WHERE to put it?
By looking at the picture, that resistor will be placed on the arrow shown. In this way we are actually increasing the threshold cutoff of the AC regulator that was inside of the R/R.and make it think that the voltage of the stator isn't at its cutoff level but actually giving off more on the headlight bulbs. Sounds tricky...but thats how i did it. and whats the VALUE..From 470 ohms all the way up to 1 kohms can be used noting that the 1K will give the higher voltage and may blacken the bulb instantly if exposed to that higher voltage. what we are really trying to do here was....SUPPLYING more voltage on the filament of the headlight bulbs so that it will GLOW much higher...of course the higher the voltage the more it will be brighter...WEIRD? well thats how a filament bulb works....

note: supplying more than the filament of the bulb can work on will instantly busted it. i prefer who ever wants to do this stock headlight bulb modification use the 680ohms so that the highest possible voltage that will be supplied to the bulbs is around 15 volts...2 more volts than without the resistor...so thats it ENJOY and try it.

  2. CDI ignition do not have an effect on stator driven headlights BUNSO, whether you rev up to 10,ooo, the excess voltage for headlight will be terminated by your regulator...the resistor will make a false threshold for the regulator.

  4. hello, great trick btw.juast wondering can we use this trick to the battery too??if we can charge up to 13-14 volt it can charge the battery faster right???thank's

  5. @JIM2sx, if the yellow wire was cut there's no way you can make this trick...because of your hid system installed...

i am using this trick ever since i was able to make the regulator be fooled by that threshold and make some juice on my my stock headlight bulb..

@anonymous, thanks, you cannot use this trick on your battery...the line from your regulator to the battery is bidirectional, in and out...in for battery voltage monitoring and out for charging...once the battery voltage is up and near the threshold preset then the clamping action of the regulator..(SHUNTING process of the stator winding ) will then commence...

  10. @dreddtot, i am not installing the system...here if you'll just follow this post of mine..you can do the trick by your OWN aka. DIY..

this trick is better using 35watts headlight.

  11. Hi i want to know how much value of resistance need to be put in Hero Honda Passion which has 12 v , 2.5 amp battery & 35/35 watt headlight bulb .

& what if i used around 500 ohm resistance & changed the bulb to 55/60 watt , is that gonna fused . Or need a higher value resistance ?

    ReplyDelete
  12. @anonymous
your system uses 35w/35w headlight bulb, if you use 500 ohms 5 watts resistor rather than the 470 ohms written you wont see any difference between the two resistance, it will not fused..but if you use 55/60 watts rated headlight bulb, i dont think your lighting coil will provide much to power that rated bulb...35 watts is enough..

  13. @ LEI so i need to use a 470ohm resistor for 35/35 watt bulb ?

  14. @ Therad Starter:
Whatever you suggested stands true only for shunt-regulated RR's,IMO Hero Honda Passion has a series regulated RR.

No disrespect meant but you should mention that it'll work ONLY FOR SHUNT REGULATED RR's.
    Thanks.

  15. thank you for correcting...indeed, yes this system will only work for those shunt type regulators...and not on series type..

yes it will definitely work on your hayate, and any suzuki commuter bikes, but not sports bike i think for their headlight is directly connected to the battery.

    ReplyDelete
  21. @jitzzzz_26

applicable only on stock bulbs..so that the intensity is noticeable, 35 watts as ive said will be fine, but when you horn such as stebel or nautilus, you'll see the beam flicker..the trick used here is fooling the voltage regulator on its threshold (o yung tinatawag na pag clip ng R/R dun sa winding ng stator.)

ohms ay iba sa watts..you need the value of the resistor in a 5 watts package..

  26. @chris102303

what is your bike, it has to be near your voltage regulator, for suzuki bikes its on the yellow wire..

@kris, please review your wiring..i am not in actual familiar with wave 100r..thanks

  27. Hello Master, does any type of 5w resistor will do? What are the things to consider? I want to try this.. Thanks you

    1. hello also to you, by the way what is the model of your motorcycle? This mod is only applicable to regulator made by DENSO with SH suffix of the model..Any 5watts resistor of 470 ohms in value is considered safe to use, NOTE: doing this mod will up your entire voltage to 15.2-15.5v range instead of 14.4v..i have been using this since i made this modification..my battery is at the best up of this writing.

    2. Hi sir, I have shogun pro tulisan, with stock wiring and bulbs, so 5watts with 470 ohms and below will work right? I have stock battery and the highest voltage reading that I remember was 13.6v. Will it fry my stock battery ? Thanks,,,

    3. yes it will work, use the 5w 470 ohms.

    5. you need to place that resistor in series with the yellow wire. This means you have to CUT that yellow wire near the connector of the regulator..(again and be reminded--near the connector of the regulator and not the yellow wire near the stator)..place it in series then cover it with any thing you can think of to avoid corroding the solder, after that secure it with any hard material to where you can strap both ends of the cut yellow wire end to end to minimize vibration to avoid loose contact..(if it became loose and the headlight is ON..one shot of the throttle up and you'll have a busted headlight in an instant) so be cautious with it..

  28. Hello Nath,

    Thank you so much,
Ngayon ko lang nabasa reply mo. It's almost a week now since i install the ceramic resistor.

What i did was, I did not cut the yellow wire instead i simply peel off the plastic cover twice [1 inch distance from each other] enough to expose the wire. Then i connected the 2 wire of the resistor. Do you think it's a bad idea with out totally cutting the yellow wire?

It only cost me 15 pesos. Very effective.

    Glad it works for you.

  30. @jay rapael, i dont think connecting the resistor the way you did will work. Coz the current will flow with the least resistace. That is the wire itself. It will just bypass the resistor. Correct me if im wrong.

Ayoko kasi mag-LED or HID.

  32. Hello sir I have a Shogun pro 125, my low dim bulb blew and tried changing it myself. My headlight (low/high beam) lights up separately but when I installed the new bulbs (I replaced the remaining bulb with led one too to match both lights but just the same rating, 12v18/18w, my stock bulb was hallogen btw) both of the bulbs were lighting at the same time yet still following the low/ high beam command but after a few days they just flicker when Im in the middle of a ride, but now they only work fpr a few seconds aftr starting my bike. What couldve I done wrong?

  34. Hi. What about the lamp life. If one expects it to last ~200 hours @ ~13,5V, how long will it last if driven allways to 15Volts? Also, if put high voltage on the lamp, its brightness will become dimmer faster as the filament grows stressed/old. Or do the insudsty standards for testing are a bit higher, and though what you are doing won't cause much worning out of the filament? Thanks :)

  36. Sir good day! tanong ko lang kung kailangan din ba na buo ang battery para mag effect ang booster?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hermento Arcilla

It will only work on 25watts stock headlight or replacement bulb of the same value. 35 watts will not work. And again it will work only on stator driven headlights not battery converted ones.

  38. Thank you Sir! @Nathaniel Berdan. This wisdom of yours absolutely works on my bike! At first I was disappointed because I thought it didn't worked at all but as I inspect other wires connected on switches and on the bulb itself and found out some loose connections..satisfaction fulfilled! again thank you sir and I'm gonna continue to follow your blog specially regarding Shogun R125! Cheers!
