Wave 125 S Panel Repair

Recently, a friend of mine is asking if i can repair his Honda Wave 125 S speedometer panel that is not functioning. No power, no activity. I said of course. so he handed it to me, and test. Before i opened the said panel, i needed to have a wiring diagram of the model, and here it is.
Although the picture seems blurred when i got it from a site, the color coding is enough for me to know which is the positive and negative line of the supply so that i can power up the board without having is entire bike, and so i powered the panel...NOTHING...no activity.







 My first visual inspection on the parts, i found out that one of the transistor at the regulator part have BLACK marks on its solder...it means it was burnt by a mistake somewhere by the owner on its motorcycle wiring that causes the panel to FAIL..


If you can see it on the picture TR102 solder, has a BLACK mark, so i immediately test it with my digital diode tester, Im not surprise of the outcome, there..the transistor pins are all shorted. in all probe points.







so I removed the said part, SMD semiconductors are easy to removed by the way if you have two soldering iron, with one a CHISEL point and a pointed one...


Be careful not to damage the foil path..when removing smd parts.









Some Smd semiconductors value are not actually printed on it, others uses MARKING code..so perhaps try to look for some downloadable SMD code cookbook for reference.



The code of this defective transistor is AJ..which is in my cookbook, stands for BCX70J. Since i have too many defective panel boards with parts still use able, just replaced it with a good one.Before i power it up again, i checked every component on the regulator side to see whether there are other damage components, fortunately NONE...so its time.



THERE!!!...it lights up..speedo needle spins and self calibrate, REPAIR DONE!!!

    There are two pink wires going to the panel of this wave 125...one is from the speed sensor, the other was from the 4th gear panel indicator....the mechanic who used to service the bike actually short the two...that makes the TR102 gone berserk....

    @anonymous....nalubog ba yan..possible all reflective film of the lcd is gone...if that's what happened...it cannot be repaired

    full replacement is needed

    Jhimry use can use two method, the slow method using the carburetor float drain plug (beneath the carb float) or the fast method using the hose before the fuel inlet switch.

    the slow method is useful if u do not want to remove your motorcycle body covers..just get at least 4 bottle of LITER SODAS and insert the drain plug hose to it and loosen the screw of the float drain plug.

    the fast method need you to remove the front covers and when the carburetor is already visible to you, pull the inlet hose of the carb and put it on the mouth of the soda bottle.

    that's it...

    May bago akong biling speedometer ng wave s then nung kinabit ko nag power on nman may fuel level pumalo din yung needle then nag gear shift ako ng primera nung mag revolution ako para makita if tataas yung needle biglang nag power off as in no display i dont know if na fuse yung speedometer patulong nman po thankyou and Godbless

    I have no idea where to buy brand new of a Wave S 125 speedometer panel. With the age model of this motorcycle, I think they are now via order basis on Honda Prestige..If you can find any defective one. I can help you repair it.

      good day sir may i ask po kasi ung speedometer ko grounded po siya anu po ung dapat ayusin dyan. sumisiga ang nutral nya at ung neddle nya gumagalaw galaw nga blingk blingk ung light sa nutral nya tapos hindi nag didisplay ung fuel digital nya. tnx po sir sa pag sagot.

      Hello Farhank, I guess you have a problem with your gas float sensor which is located inside your gas tank. To confirm..short the two wires of the sensor to see if your panel gas meter will get to full bars. If yes then you know now the problem. Thank you.

      If that is still heating up then you have a slight short on that board. check all components..such as those small black diodes.

    sir dead po ung gauge q as in wala lahat...pero nung tinester q. ung positive test probe q nilagay q sa positive input, tpos ung negative test probe sa TR112 gumana lahat ng ilaw pati sa gear umiilaw...anu ba pwd kung gawin sir?

      All indicator lights has no direct connection the supply of the MCU that drives the Speed pointer and the LCD display. What you are doing is trying to turn on that TR112 to which it gets the base signal from the MU..if your MCU is dead or no supply, those indicator lights are also dead.

      TR102 is the one in trouble if u have a dead unit..not TR112..FYI

      Honestly, It is very difficult to find SMD components in our country. You have to find donor boards so that you can repair it if u really know what you are doing. There are many who knew but it seems you want to DIY it so better find that part of the component.

    An update on this article.

    When after replacing the TR102 and still burning up all over again, it means the board has a shorted path between the 5 volt Supply and ground in the board. You need to remove all IC one by one as you are looking for a possible shorted IC..Good luck everyone.

    Yes, it can be repaired if the technician really know how to repair it. "kaya po nasusunog yung TR102 na yun ay may ibang pyesa pa na bumigay at yung TR102 na yun ay poprotektahan nya pinaka MU kaya yun ang nasusunog"

    Good Day! is the admin still active? I have a question regarding on my speed meter also, it has all the lights in my panel, my only concern is when i try it to start, the panel works properly and the arrow is active but, when I'm riding it the speedometer arrow is not working when I'm gaining speed, what do you think is the main problem of the speedmeter?
